Solving the issue of elderly patients in care homes having difficulty in the bathroom potentially falling over and not being able to call for appropriate help. Ultimately increasing the amount of freedom that patients have in the care home.
the problem
For the over-65 population, falling can be a serious health risk. In fact, 3 million elderly people each year are treated in emergency rooms for fall-related injuries.
the market
Residential care for the elderly will rise by 6.9% from £22.05 billion to £23.58 billion by 2024. For the digital health sector, due to the covid-19 pandemic, telecare or telemedicine has dramatically increased during this 6-24 month period. In the next 2-5 years, there is emerging health technologies such as advanced sensors and wearables.
our solution
Aiming to improve the user's experience within the shower room. This product uses a simple Arduino code to enable the user more independence but ensures support if it is needed. The bath button starts a timer of 32 minutes (average for bath) and without pressing the stop button, a silent alarm will sound to the carers. Similarly, the shower button starts the timer for 8 minutes.
